Practice Summary

Andrew can rightly be regarded as one of the only true construction barristers on the Northern/North Eastern/Midlands Circuit and appears in the Technology & Construction Court almost on a daily basis. Andrew has a sizeable construction practice with work derived from throughout England , Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. He also sits as a part time Judge in the TCC.

His practice is almost exclusively in Construction and Engineering disputes and associated Professional Negligence actions. Andrew has also gained wide experience in the provision of procurement advice.

Andrew is a member Mediation and Arbitration group at 4-5 Gray’s Inn Square and an accredited mediator with the ADR Group. He is an arbitrator and adjudicator and is listed on the TECBAR’s panels.

As well as acting as counsel in arbitrations and adjudications in England and foreign jurisdictions, Andrew accepts appointments as adjudicator and arbitrator and is a TECBAR panel member


Last year Andrew was first junior Counsel in Amey v Cumbria [2016] EWHC TCC 2856 and 2946 the main trial ran for over 40 days in the Manchester TCC and he appeared in the Court of Appeal in Graham Leslie v Farrer Construction Limited [2016 } EWCA Civ 1041.

In 2014 he appeared in the leading case of :

Northumbrian Water Ltd v McAlpine Ltd [2014] EWCA Civ 685 (English Court of Appeal).

Northern Ireland Housing Executive v Healthy Buildings (Ireland) Ltd [2014] NICA 27 (Northern Irish Court of Appeal).

Professional Negligence

Andrew acts regularly for against construction professionals in a full range of construction and engineering related disputes.


Andrew is a member of 4-5 mediation and an ADR Group accredited mediator for civil and commercial disputes. He has acted as counsel and mediator in numerous disputes.


Andrew is the only band 1 junior construction counsel on the Northern/North eastern Circuit in Chambers and Partners and is likewise listed as a leading junior in The Legal 500.

He was awarded Commercial Arbitration Barrister of the year for the UK in this year’s Finance Monthly Legal awards
