Regulatory Law Inquests following accidents at work, Criminal Defences to Charges brought by HSE, Environment Agency, MCA, MMO etc.

Recent work has included sale and purchase of replica ship, new commercial vessel builds, disputes after sales and purchases, charter parties, agricultural contracts and business planning. Within the public domain illustrations include “Olivia Belle” (inquest following death of skipper), “Amy R” (correct sentencing on fishing prosecutions) “Christina” (acquittal of Directors), “Coyo Tercero” and “O’Genita (release from detention of Masters and vessels). David assisted as junior to Philip Hackett Q.C. in the Celtic Mining fraud cases and is currently working on “Heather Anne” (loss of vessel and life at sea).

Marine Environment

David Hassall is regularly involved from the moment of a vessel’s arrest at sea to acquittal, on both fisheries and other marine cases for UK and foreign flag vessels. Of the many cases in the public domain he obtained the acquittal of Directors in “The Christina” and release of Master and vessel in “Coyo Tercero”. His submissions on fisheries sentencing policy have been used in courts throughout the country. As the new inshore landscape develops David has been actively involved in renewable energy initiatives. Paperwork has included Charter Party’s, new build Contracts and advice on mooring rights.
David Hassall has advised on Harbour Authorities powers and is a member of the British Marine Law Association.

Agriculture

David Hassall has pro-actively advised on major Contract Farming Initiatives, Diversification, Farming Disputes, Health & Safety and Inquests. More recently in planning, renewables and Judicial Review.

Regulatory

David is an extremely competent advocate who has both prosecuted and defended maritime cases involving collisions, fatalities and accidents at sea and major environmental investigations, working alone but also as a team alongside Philip Hackett Q.C. as in “O’Genita” or more recently as junior to him.

David has been instructed to seek judicial review of Welsh Inshore Fisheries Policy.

David has been instructed to undertake the contractual drafting for a new general of fuel efficient vessels being developers specifically to service the offshore renewable industry.

David Hassall’s Contract Farming initiative in Devon gains critical acclaim.

David is a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association, the Chancery Bar Association and the British Marine Law Association
