Max’s practice covers sports and professional discipline, employment, fraud, asset seizure and forfeiture.

Max’s sports law experience is wide ranging. He has been on the anti-doping committee at first instance in allegations involving prohibited substances and also represented many professional athletes including Premier League and Championship footballers.

Max advises in employment law cases and has particular experience in unfair dismissal and discrimination claims. He has been instructed for both claimants and respondents and has acted at first instance and on appeal.

Max regularly advises in claims alleging dishonesty and has experience of civil and criminal fraud.

Sports and Professional Discipline

Max wrote the UK Mixed Martial Arts Federation regulation and disciplinary policy. These are to be the governing rules and regulations of Mixed Martial Arts in the UK. Max has been appointed to the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s anti-doping committee and decided on the first ever anti-doping case in the Federation.

Max’s employment law experience allows him to advise concisely on athlete selection and discrimination. He has experience advising on internal procedure including matters with complex medical evidence.

He has also defended in criminal allegations such as violence arising in a FA regulated match, professional athletes accused of domestic violence, and racially aggravated harassment. Further Max has prosecuted and defended matters of touting and football banning orders.

Max also accepts instructions from professional bodies and has recently appeared as a case presenter for the Nursing and Midwifery Council in a variety of hearings.


Max has experience in complex employment cases focusing on unfair dismissal and discrimination. Max has appeared at first instance and on appeal in employment matters. He also accepts instructions in insurance funded cases and damages based agreements.

Asset Seizure and Forfeiture

Max has worked on a multitude of allegations of dishonesty including civil and criminal fraud. He recently assisted with a multi-million pound civil fraud claim following the collapse of a prominent hotel group. The losses in this claim were in excess of £45 million.

Max has undertaken multi-jurisdictional work and has also assisted in international investigations in respect of hidden assets allegations. He has experience in cash forfeiture hearings and in cases with an international element. Max has advised those facing allegations of financial crime as well as in cash forfeiture proceedings.

Max has also recently been instructed as LPP Counsel in a long running case by the Serious Fraud Office.
