• Led junior, instructed by a Belgian diamond trader, to lift a worldwide freezing injunction

• Assisted with a multi-million pound civil fraud claim following the collapse of a prominent hotel group (the losses in this claim were in excess of £45 million)

• Instructed as privilege Counsel in the largest deferred prosecution ever (SFO v Rolls-Royce PLC and Rolls-Royce Energy Systems Inc)

• Advised on privilege in a £400 million banking claim

• Advised on privilege in a £17 million breach of contract claim

• Advised and appeared in cash forfeiture proceedings where there were attempts to remove a large quantity of cash from the jurisdiction

• Advised in cash forfeiture proceedings following successful acquittal of money laundering allegations

• Assisted in international investigations in respect of hidden assets allegations

Dispute Resolution

• Assisted in a mediation in respect of a multi-million pound claim

• Counsel in mediation in respect of unfair and wrongful dismissal claims

• Advised on settlement in a variety of claims against multinational supermarkets and companies, well respected education institutions, and local authorities.


• Currently instructed by the headmaster of a school in an unfair dismissal claim following allegations of gross misconduct. This matter has concurrent and independent High Court proceedings

• Currently instructed in a matter against the Police Commissioner of the Metropolis

• Currently instructed in an unfair dismissal and disability discrimination claim against a national company

• Currently instructed in a whistleblowing case against a multinational insurance company. This case involves disclosure to the Financial Conduct Authority

• Advised and successfully represented a health care assistant in a claim for unfair dismissal against a national care home association

• Advised and successfully represented a client in a claim for unfair dismissal following allegations of conspiracy to steal high value goods from a multi-national company

• Advised a client in respect of unfair dismissal and race discrimination claims following allegations of theft

• Advised a client in respect of pregnancy discrimination claims. This case dealt with allegations of illicitly obtained documents

• Advised and successfully represented a client at a Rule 3(10) hearing in the Employment Appeal Tribunal

• Advised and successfully represented a client in a claim for unfair dismissal proceedings against a non-departmental public body following allegations of being under the influence at work. Max also advised on the concurrent regulatory prosecution in respect of this matter

• Advised a client in respect of an unfair dismissal claim in respect of allegations of fraud

Sports and Professional Discipline

• Frequently instructed by the Nursing & Midwifery Council in substantive hearings including registrants charged with causing/or contributing to the death of patients and causing a loss of chance of survival

• Currently instructed to advise the defence in Health Care Professionals Council proceedings

• Appeared for the Nursing & Midwifery Council in complex substantive hearing in a matter comprising 27 charges where all charges were found proved

• Frequently instructed in interim orders for the Nursing & Midwifery Council

• Advising the General Dental Council in respect of the Data Protection Act 1998 and Legal Professional Privilege

• Author of the UK Mixed Martial Arts Federation regulation and disciplinary policy

• Appointed to the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation anti-doping committee and decided on the first ever anti-doping case in the Federation

• Advised professional football players about criminal and civil liability, injunctive relief, and appeared on their behalf at preliminary hearings and trial
