Timothy Straker QC has a wide ranging public law practice. He has made many appearances in courts at the highest level. This includes work overseas as well as in England and Wales. For instance he has appeared in the High Court and Court of Appeal in both Belfast and Trinidad. He has appeared in inquiries in Scotland and undertaken work relating to environmental assessment under European Law in Greece.

Recent major court cases include Environmental Management Authority v People United Respecting Environment (environmental consents); Norfolk and Devon County Councils v. Secretary of State (local government reorganisation); Oxfordshire County Council v. Parking Adjudicator (traffic management); McNicholas v. Nursing Council (professional regulation); Stagecoach and others v. Secretary of State (bus concessions); Murabet v. Lambeth (precedent fact in judicial review); Kemble Airport v. Cotswold District Council (planning control in respect of airports); Supportways v. Hampshire (procurement); Wiltshire v. Crest (highway agreements); Multi Development Corporation v. Secretary of State (planning, Belfast).

He has detailed and specialist knowledge of election law. He acts for returning officers and the Electoral Commission in referenda, European, parliamentary, mayoral and local authority elections. He has acted in all the major election cases in the last twenty years.
