Human rights and Civil Liberties

The protection of human rights and civil liberties is an area of the law that has, seen enormous growth since the enactment of the Human Rights Act 1998. The protection of those rights and liberties cannot be dealt with in isolation, but arises in all manner of legal contexts, from more obvious areas such as immigration, prisons, libel and mental health, to the less obvious, such as the planning and environmental law field, company law and the regulatory sphere. Practitioners at 4-5 Gray’s Inn Square are able to bring together depth and diversity of experience in these varied fields of law, together with expertise in human rights law itself, so as to offer effective and comprehensive advice and representation to our clients.

Members have a wealth of experience of acting in cases with a human rights element, both at domestic level and in the Strasbourg court. Members of Chambers advise not only individuals and domestic public authorities, but also Non-Governmental Organisations and foreign governments in relation to human rights.
