Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman: 1951 – 2016

4-5 Gray’s Inn Square pays it respects to the remarkable Irish Supreme Court Judge, Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman.

Judge Hardiman was born in Dublin in 1951 and educated at Belvedere College, University College Dublin and the King’s Inns.

He was called to the Bar in 1974 and practised as a barrister for the next 26 years, when he was appointed directly to the Irish Supreme Court.

Michael Paulin said: “Adrian Hardiman was one of the greatest legal minds of his generation. He was committed to civil liberties and individual freedoms, and had a hinterland outside of the law that was, in many ways, as profound as his remarkable contributions as a jurist. Adrian was a scholar of history, a mentor to many junior barristers, a raconteur, and a man of principle and integrity. It was with great sadness that the news of his untimely death was received”.

“Its tremendous reputation is founded upon the cornerstones of faultless organisation and a devotion to practical solutions”
