Chambers is delighted to announce that Richard Clayton QC has been re-appointed as the United Kingdom representative to the Venice Commission

The Venice Commission is the Council of Europe’ advisory body on constitutional law. Richard was appointed to the Venice Commission as the UK’s representative in 2011 and has just been re-appointed for a further term until 31 December 2018. The Venice Commission receives requests to give Opinions on constitutional law issues, typically by the country seeking advice itself or following a referral by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Its advisory work includes pure constitutional questions, codes regulating judicial and prosecutorial independence, electoral law and practice and human rights.
